Reality Shows, the borderline?
I've been thinking about this for ages actually it's something Mom inspired me to write about.
Anyone remember movies from the 70s and 80s? The ultra realistic toy guns?
Loads of violence, smoking, bad attitude and all. The aftermath? Loads o' bad influence on children, rise in school bullying yada yada blah blah........
It was only in the 90s did they realize it was better to get things straight but along came violent videogames, The Columbine Highschool incident and a chain of similar events.
The point is, haven't we learned from experience that there are somethings that really need to be controlled?
Every other cable channel's got a reality show varying from the bizzare Fear Factor to something extremely scary like stuff happening at the hospital. I remember this episode where I actually saw a lady die! as the doctors tried to resuscate her. Although her face was sensored the images still scare me.
Don't tell me they always show the 'Not for the faint hearted' message before every program. What about channel surfers who actually stumble upon such stuff?
Never mind the adults, talk about kids!
Hullo! you tell children smoking's bad and the minute they turn old enough to leave home without a chaperone they're gonna smoke!
All things set aside just think about it for a minute. People who've experienced a tragic incident or been subjected to violence grow up to be a little disturbed. A couple of DISTURBED people won't matter but think about the hundreds of insensitive people that would emerge after a couple of years of watching whack shows on tv?
Don't even get me started on shows like Jerry Springer and certain episodes of Mauri whateva........
The solution?
To be honest, I really have no idea!
But I can see the right light flickr every now and then.
